Decommissioning of SAL finished

Starting in March 2017 NES decommissioned the Safeguards Analytical Laboratory of IAEA, located in Seibersdorf, by order of IAEA. This laboratory had been used for decades to analyze nuclear samples taken by IAEA inspectors all around the world. Since the new IAEA laboratory is operating, this laboratory has been out of operation.

In phase 1 the glove boxes have been emptied, decontaminated and transferred to NES premises for further processing. In phase 2 the remaining laboratory infrastructure such as fume hoods, furniture and active waste water lines were decommissioned and the remaining structure of the building was checked for contamination and decontaminated. Phase 2 was carried out in cooperation with Seibersdorf Labor GmbH. In September 2018 the project was completed successfully.
